What this place is

Between a temple visit and the next stretch of Nene-no-Michi, Manjiro offers a reason to give lunch its own place in the day. The restaurant occupies a former inn in a historic machiya near the northern end of the lane. Its ground-floor table seating looks towards a courtyard; upstairs rooms can be rearranged for larger groups.

The food gives you several ways into Kyoto cooking. The Fumen-tenshin lunch brings together yuba, nama-fu dengaku, fu noodles and chirashi sushi. Other courses move through seasonal dishes, with Kyoto beef included in the Kinugasa and higher selections. Menus change monthly, so yesterday's photograph is a guide to the format rather than a promise of the same ingredients.

The useful choice is how you want to spend the meal: a table during a day of sightseeing, or a private room for a longer gathering. English menus are available, and the restaurant invites ingredient requests in advance. From Gion-Shijo Station, its published walking route is about ten minutes.

Why this place, specifically

A room is part of the booking conversation, not an automatic extra: private rooms start with Murasame at lunch and Kinugasa at dinner, subject to availability. Ask which course suits your group, whether table-and-chair seating can be arranged, and whether the kitchen can accommodate your specific food restrictions. Request the final per-person total, including tax and the 10% service charge: the website's highlighted prices and course lists use inconsistent tax labels. Confirm the arrival time too; the restaurant has irregular closing days.

Hamo courses are advertised approximately May–October and require a reservation; ask what is available for your date.
Public price band
Listed lunch from ¥3,500; dinner from ¥5,000. A 10% service charge is extra; confirm the final total.
Room
50 seats; banquets up to 35. Tatami and table arrangements are available; request the seating you need.
Visitor note
English menus are available. Private rooms depend on the course and availability; discuss ingredients and seating when reserving.
